Bp Tucker was the first to resign from his elected diocesan episcopate to take on the duties of Presiding Bishop. But it did not come immediately. He was elected PB in 1938, and finally resigned from Virginia in 1944. This was a consequence of actions begun at the 1940 General Convention, when the cathedral in Washington DC was proclaimed the official seat of the PB. Subsequent PB’s have resigned their diocesan sees right after election as PB.
